The surgeons of NICVS perform a high volume of all types of adult cardiac surgery with an emphasis on complex operations including: coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), off-pump (OPCAB) procedures, redo coronary bypass, surgical repair and replacement of mitral and aortic valves, as well as surgical procedures to correct atrial fibrillation, other cardiac arrhythmia, and left ventricular reconstructive surgery for congestive heart failure. More than 10,000 open heart procedures have been performed by the surgeons of NICVS.
Additionally, the surgeons of NICVS routinely perform Thoracic procedures (lung surgery, esophageal surgery) and vascular surgical procedures (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm repair, endovascular Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm repair, and carotid surgery). Their teamwork, technical expertise and experience combine to ensure that patients receive the highest level of medical care.
NICVS began the open heart program at Sherman Hospital in 1972, making it one of the first and most experienced community open heart programs in the country. The volume of surgery performed has grown steadily over the years. In 2002, over 600 open heart procedures were performed. NICVS has also been performing open heart procedures at Provena St. Joseph Hospital since June of 2004 when their program began. |
