Dr. Choh has been a member of our group since 1980. He was born in Seoul, Korea and attended Seoul National University for his premedical, medical, master’s and postgraduate studies. He performed an internship and surgical residency at Seoul National University Hospital, and came to the United States in 1973. Dr. Choh completed an internship at Columbus-Cuneo Medical Center in Chicago, and then went to the Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he finished a General Surgery Residency in 1978. He went to the State University of New York at Buffalo where he did his residency in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
Dr. Choh is the author of numerous articles in the medical literature. He is board certified in Surgery and (Cardio) Thoracic Surgery. His special interests include biologic aortic valve surgery, left ventricular reconstructive surgery for congestive heart failure, and off-pump bypass surgery.
From 2003 to 2005, Dr. Choh was on leave of absence from Northern Illinois Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery to set up a new open-heart surgery program in Seoul, Korea. He served as the Director of Cardiac Surgery, the medical director of the Cardiovascular Institute, and a professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
He rejoined the NICVS practice in August of 2005, and is back actively practicing cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery. He continues to maintain his position as Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital.
