Northern Illinois Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery
Dr. Ihm was born in Seoul, Korea and attended the prestigious Seoul National University, where he completed both his premedical and medical school education. He came to the United States in 1965 and did an internship at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital followed by a residency in General Surgery at Ohio Valley General Hospital in Wheeling, West Virginia. He then completed a residency in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the University of Maryland Hospitals. He is board certified in Surgery and in Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Dr. Ihm came to NICVS in 1972 and was the key member of the original open heart team. After a very successful surgical career spanning over 34 years in the Elgin area, Dr. Ihm retired at the end of June, 2006. However, he continues to fill in with various clinical and supportive roles for Northern Illinois Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, remaining as a mentor, friend and trusted advisor.
